Battery charger
EVERYDAY USE OF ELECTRIC BIKE
-
Check battery has sufficient charge for proposed journey.
-
Check tyre pressure.
-
Check front and rear brakes are working.
-
Check for loose wheel nuts, handlebars and saddle.
-
Install battery pack and lock into position.
-
Insert key and switch power to 'on' position.
-
Rotate throttle clockwise to accelerate; speed can be varied according to conditions. Bicycle can be peddled whilst using power.
-
Do not apply maximum acceleration from start. Slow acceleration will not overload the electrical system and ensure long motor life and battery life.
-
Power to the motor is automatically cut when braking. Please allow throttle to return to the home position when braking to avoid possible damage to motor.
-
To conserve battery power and prolong the life of battery and motor, please pedal assist whilst starting and climbing.
-
The optimal load for bike is 80kg (max. load 105kg) do not overload.
-
Switch off power when battery indicator shows 'empty' and pedal only. Recharge the battery as soon as possible.
-
Turn off power and remove key when parked.
-
Switch power off when pushing to avoid accidental acceleration. Don't twist throttle when power is off to avoid damage to circuitry.
-
Reduce unnecessary braking to conserve battery power.
LEAD ACID BATTERY CHARGING
- Plug battery charger into battery pack.
- It is best practice not to completely drain battery to empty.
- Switch charger on - an indicator lamp will glow when power is on.
- Indicator light will change from red to green when charged - continue charging for another 1-2 hours after light has turned green.
- Battery charger can remain on overnight if desired and it cannot harm the battery pack.
- Please read the charger manual before using.
COMMON PRECAUTIONS TO BE OBSERVED
- Don't touch battery poles with bare hands.
- Don't touch battery poles with anything conductive as this will cause a short circuit.
- Whilst charging keep out of the reach of children.
- Only use the charger supplied to charge battery pack. Do not dismantle charger to avoid damage to electrical circuit.
- Don't allow liquids or any other foreign matter into charger and avoid dropping.
- Use charger in a dry and ventilated area without stacking anything on top of it.
- Have charger checked for damage if it overheats or emits burning smell.
- Battery should be recharged every month if left idle for long periods. Don't let the battery completely drain.
- Charger will produce heat of 30 °C when charging so keep it well clear of flammable objects.
- Distance traveled on a charge will be reduced during colder weather.
- Avoid using bicycle if charging process is not completed.
MAINTENANCE
Clean and grease moving parts every three months. Clean and oil chain every three months. Drip small amount of machine oil into brake cable every six months. Regularly check tension on nuts and screws as well as the tension of the spokes. Regularly check tyre pressure and ensure reflector and lights are always working when riding at night.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
PROBLEM |
PROBABLE CAUSE |
| Bike is switched on but fails to accelerate when throttle is engaged. |
1. Check battery is connected and battery pack is locked.
2. Check fuse in battery box. Replace with suitable 15A fuse if blown. |
| Bike moves without application of throttle. |
Check that twist throttle has returned to resting position. |
| Bike does not respond to throttle after stopping. |
Check the brakes have returned to their free state. |
| Bike is not running at optimum speed. |
Check throttle is fully open and battery is properly charged. |
| Indicator lamp is not glowing on charger. |
Check power supply to charger. |
| Yellow light is glowing whilst charging. |
Check plugs are not loose on charger and battery pack. |
| Battery will not accept the recharge. |
Check fuse in top of battery box and replace if blown. |
| Bike won't reach top speed. |
Speed controller is activated - disconnect terminal (see below) |
|
 |
Fuse located in top of battery box |
|
Speed controller
- do not connect these terminals unless you need to activate
